The Brain of the Great Train Robbery
BIGGS, Ronnie (1929-Dec.18, 2013). Notorious British criminal who became known as “The Brain of the Great Train Robbery.” The robbery was of a Royal Mail Train traveling from Glasgow to London. The robbery netted about $4 million dollars which is about $65 million today. Biggs escaped from prison and evaded Scotland Yard for over 3 decades. The robbery is most likely the most famous in British history. Biggs lived in Brazil for many years never answering all his fan mail. Rare, typed letter signed, one very full page, 9 March 1993. Biggs types a letter to “Steve” his autograph agent, “...I don’t know what could have happened to the missing pamphlets. I sent them all - and I counted 133! Here in Rio it’s customary to take stuff to the Post office unsealed...if the package was opened for further inspection here in Rio, it’s beyond me why anyone would want to take any of the sheets unless I have far more fans than I imagined!...I hope you received the photos without any trouble. I will be including the 4 drawings with this letter. It would be certainly nice if you land the deal with the mail order house - but it would take me at least a week to sign 3000! Anyway, I’ve got my fingers crossed!....Your friend, Ron.” Two mailing folds otherwise in fine condition. In Ronnie’s house in Rio he had a cabinet full of fan letters. Each pile wrapped with string. None of which was answered. Anything signed by him can be considered Rare. Photo of Steve Koschal and Ronnie Biggs included......................$175.00
