Scarce color photograph of Benazir Bhutto
BHUTTO, Benazir (1953-2007) Bhutto served as the 11th and 13th Prime Minister of Pakistan (1988-1990) and (1993-1996) while country was undergoing racial tension. There is a low estimate that 3,000 protesters were killed in Karachi. Bhutto was a left-wing Pakistan politician. She was the first woman to head a Democratic Government in a Muslim majority country. She was repeatedly imprisoned and later was self-exiled to Britain in 1984. She returned to Pakistan in 1986. After a political rally which she competed for 2008, she was assassinated. On the 27th of December 2007, a teenage boy influenced by the Pakistan Taliban shot three bullets and ignited his suicide vest, twenty-two others also died. She was an Icon for women’s rights. Hospitals and the Islamabad’s Airport are named for her. A series of postage stamps were created to honor her 55th birthday. Color photograph, 4”x6” of Bhutto waving to her followers.
