BERNSTEIN, Leonard (1918-1990) American conductor, composer, pianist. Considered one of the most important conductors of his time. First American conductor to receive international acclaim. His best-known work is for the Broadway Musical West Side Story. Uncommon photograph, 7”X9.5”, B&W, conducting in front of Montserrat Caballe, the Spanish soprano who is considered the best soprano of the 20th century. Bernstein is also known for his appearance with Freddie Mercury. The scene is from “Kaddish” which refer to a Jewish prayer that is chanted at every synagogue service for the dead. This symphony was a popular performance, Symphony #3, saw 54 performances with 28 in the orchestra including one soprano soloist across Asia, Europe and America. Inscribed, signed and dated: “For Thomas M. McCooper, Best wishes Leonard Bernstein, 79.” In fine condition.....................SOLD
