Rare Signed Copy of Topps Baseball Cards
BERGER, Sy (1923-2014) Employee of Topps for over 50 years, He is best known for turning baseball heroes into baseball cards. His first day at Topps was the first day Topps introduced Bazooka Gum. He co-designed the 1952 Topps Baseball Series. In 1960 nobody wanted the stock of the 1952 series Topps baseball cards. Topps needed the storage space and loaded the cards into three dump trucks. The trucks took the cards to a barge and the barge took the load a few miles to the ocean and dropped them at sea. The fabulous coffee table top book: “The Complete Picture Collection, A 35 Year History, 1951-1985 Topps Baseball Cards.” Warner Books, 1987, fifth impression. Completely illustrated in color. Signed by Sy Berger. Book weights over 8 pounds. Front cover a bit loose and dust jacket missing front folding flap.
