Very Rare Book Inscribed & Signed by LBJ
BELL, Jack His book: “The Splendid Misery, The Story of the Presidency and Power Politics at Close Range.” Doubleday & Co. 1960. Four hundred seventy-four pages. Inscribed and signed by Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson. “To Carl Curtis for his dedication to the Senate of the United States; for his faithful service and for his friendship- Happy Birthday! Lyndon B. Johnson 3/15/63.” Very rare for a handful of reasons. Genuine Johnson lengthy inscriptions are almost non existent. LBJ signatures are possibly the rarest of all presidents in authentic forms. The very lengthy inscription of Johnson in this book is equivalent to an autograph letter signed. It is rare to find anything dated by Johnson, he did so in this case to identify a birthday for a friend. This is one Rare instance where a genuine Lyndon B. Johnson signature does not have the ‘dot’ under the “B”. Two comments from the book “The President’s Pen.” “Johnson seems never to have dated either books or photographs.” “Letters of any date with his full signature are Rare and impossible to obtain, particularly from the presidential period. Letters from his Vice-presidential period are even scarcer. This book was inscribed and signed as vice-president and just 8 months before accompanying John F. Kennedy to Dallas, Texas. Fine condition with dust jacket.................$2,500.00
