BAZARGAN, Mehdi (1908-1995). Iranian activist, First Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic 11 Feb. 1979-6 Nov. 1979. Appointed Prime Minister by Ayatollah Khomeini. In April 1979 he escaped an assassination attempt. He resigned following the U.S. Embassy takeover and hostage taking. Fine content typed letter signed, one full page, April 3, 1983. He writes in part: “...I am sure that your children are very lucky to have a father and mother with such deep insight. Of course, I do not consider my example or backround worthy of such an honor, which is to inspire anybody. In addition, I hope and am eager to contribute to the future of your children in other than just personal ways. But, since you would like a photograph, which is the smallest token I can give while you are certainly worthy of something much better....I wish to send also the English translations of some of my books with the hope that you and your wife will find them both interesting and useful…” Signed: “M.
