BARNARD, Christian (1922-2001). South African cardiac surgeon who performed the world’s first human to human heart transplant. He was sought by celebrities from around the world. He often courted controversy by employing black nurses. Fine typed letter signed, one page, 16/6/82 on University of Cape Town aerogram stationary/envelope. He writes: “In reply to your letter of the 7th June enquiring about my hobbies, one of my chief free-time occupations is perhaps writing books and articles.
