BANKHEAD, Tallulah (1903-1968). Award winning American actress. Her first performance was attended by the Wright Brothers. She was linked romantically with many notable personalities, including Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Marlene Dietrich and singer Billie Holiday. She was a heavy drinker and was said to smoke 150 cigarettes a day. In 1933 she nearly died following a 5 hour emergency hysterectomy due to venereal disease. She weighed only 70 pounds when leaving the hospital. Photograph, 5”x8”, head & shoulders pose. Boldly signed.. Dated on verso April 6, 1937 with photographer’s stamp “James Hargis Connelly Portrait- Chicago”. Light tape residue in the margin on the corners, and very minor crease along the bottom otherwise a very good example................... $175.00
