Creator of Smiley
BALL, Harvey (1921-2001). American commercial artist. Creator and designer of “Smiley” in 1963. It became an enduring and notable international icon. Ball worked for the State Mutual Life Assurance Corp. where the employees had a low morale. He created Smiley and 100 pins were made for the employees. It became quite a hit and by 1971, 50 million Smiley buttons were sold. The phrase “Have a Happy Day” became associated with Smiley. World Smile Corporation was founded by Ball in 1999. Very rare, large size, original drawing of Smily, 4.5”X4.5” on a slip 5”X8.5”. Harvey Ball has signed his name including “TM” (trade mark). Most unusual..................SOLD
