BARCARDI, Emilio (1844-1922). Cuban industrialist, politician and President of Barcardi Rum. Barcardi Rum was founded in 1862 and the rum business grew under his leadership which was made official in 1877 when he was named president of the company. He held that position throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. He became politically active supporting the rebels and was arrested and imprisoned. During the American occupation and governance of Cuba he worked with the American military. He was appointed by Leonard Wood Mayor of Santiago. Barcardi is the largest privately held family owned spirit company. Partly printed document signed three times. Municipal de Santiago de Cuba, 14 June 1899, appx. 6”x10”, signed in the center of the document next to a handstamp of the Mayor of Santiago. On the verso Barcardi has signed his name twice, both signatures near the Municipal, Santiago de Cuba handstamp. In very good conditione.................................$225
