ALFONSO XII – King of Spain
ALFONSO XII, Don (1857-1885). King of Spain (1874-1885). Known as “The Peacemaker.” He brought to an end political instability that had dominated Spain for the past two-thirds of a century. During his very short reign (1874-1885) peace was established both at home and abroad. At the age of only 27 years old he developed tuberculosis which led to his death. Document signed, as King, November 6, 1883, appointing a Colonel in the Institute of Rifleman. Very attractive document, measures appx. 9”X12”, has the imprinted Seal of the King and signed “Yoe el Rey” (I the King) as has been done for centuries.
