AGNEW, Spiro (1918-1996). 39th Vice President of the United States. Serving from 1969 until his resignation in 1973. He is the second vice president to resign the position. Agnew took kickbacks from contractors during his time as Governor of Maryland. The payments continued into his time as vice president. Agnew pleaded no contest to a felony charge of tax evasion and resigned from office. He was replaced by Gerald Ford. Agnew borrowed $200,000 from his friend Frank Sinatra hoping he could resume a career as a lawyer, but he was disbarred. Agnew made a deal to supply the Iraqi Army with uniforms which involved negotiations with Saddam Hussein. Agnew was also known for his anti-Israel views. He befriended the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and requested a 2-million-dollar loan while he congratulated the Crown Prince for his call for jihad against Israel.
Uncommon official color photograph of Agnew, most likely as vice president, 8”x10”, head and shoulders pose. Inscribed along with a sentiment: “with best wishes to Paul Cassidy Spiro T. Agnew.” Except for some wear to the paper, top left corner, in very good condition. Agnew dropped out of the public eye for quite some time and avoided signing autographs...........$95.00
