Choice Content Letter
SLOAN, Eric (1905-1985). American landscape painter, illustrator. Choice typed letter signed, one full page on his name/address imprinted letterhead. In his hand he writes: “Dear Mr. Walz”. Sloan sends thanks for a letter and continues: “I am not certain what edition of the print you bought but it might have been the same that the museum is selling for thirty dollars. This was a printing done in New York City on a glossy paper of which I had a hundred made. The Unicorn sold about a dozen. Later I sent the original painting to Germany where the same thing was printed on a handmade paper using a different process. Some people liked the glossy prints as well (or better) but the German limited edition was done to sell at 225 dollars. There are 500 of these available. Now back to the museum, I donated a dozen of four prints to the museum and asked them to sell them at the regular price (unmated and unframed). The museum is a state owned project as I donated the whole thing to the state a few years ago. I was distressed to find them selling the prints at thirty dollars; I seldom get down to see the museum as I live much of the time in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The print project has been one without financial reward to me as I give the proceeds to the museum or charities, but I can certainly see your position and request for a 65 refund.
