Most unusual, very early Richard Nixon letter, ready to run for Vice President
“..I am wondering if you have taken into consideration the fact that California Senators and Congressman are not in particularly good standing in Arizona...”

NIXON, Richard  (1913-1994).  37th president of the United States.  First President to resign the Office of the Presidency.   T.L.S., one and a half separate pages, on the imprinted stationery of the United States Senate, Committee On Labor & Public Welfare.  August 9, 1951. To Miss Selma Warlick, Director of National Concert & Artists Corp.  As a newly elected senator from California taking his seat on January 3, 1951, Nixon discusses and agreement for all his speaking tours and his fees. Nixon writes in part: “I wonder if it might be possible for you to arrange a a non-political speaking engagement for me some place not too far from Washington…I would like to have an opportunity to do so in order to make a “practice” address in preparation for the November tour.  If you see a good spot for me for this purpose, I will not be greatly concerned over the amount of the fee….” In a lengthy P.S. Nixon adds: “While I do know the nature of the meeting you have in mind at Tucson, I am wondering if you have taken into consideration that fact that California Senators and Congressmen are not in particularly good standing in Arizona due to the long standing controversy between the two Sates over rights to the Colorado River water.” Signed in full with the early form of his signature.  The tour Nixon is getting ready for is his run for the Vice presidency which he was nominated for at the Republican Convention less than a year later.  On the same day as this letter but 23 years later president Nixon signed his resignation.  Light browning around the edges of the letter from prior framing otherwise in very good condition........................$1,375.00
