KINGSFORD-SMITH, Sir Charles (1897-1935). Australian aviator, served with the RFC in WWI. Ace, credited with 5 victories. He made the first U.S./Australia Pacific flight (1928) in his famous aircraft the “Southern Cross”. He was lost en-route to Singapore in an attempted flight from England to Australia.
