Extraordinary Letter by Lady Bird Johnson
Handwritten Written Just 23 days after Lyndon Johnson Died
JOHNSON, Lady Bird (1912-2007) First and Second lady of the United States. As Second Lady, Lady Bird often served as a substitute for Jacqueline Kennedy at official events. The Johnson’s accompanied JFK in Dallas when he was assassinated. Lady Bird accompanied Lyndon Johnson to an airplane two hours later where Lyndon Johnson took the Presidential Oath of Office. Lady Bird was the recipient of the presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Uncommon autograph letter on her Stonewall, Texas imprinted letterhead. Two full pages dated February 14, 1973. To Dorothy (Nichols) who was one of Johnson’s three secretaries and spent 17 years working in the Capital. Lady Bird writes: “Dear Dorothy, You were such a dear part of Lyndon’s life-from was it 1938 or 1939?- on, with your enduring loyalty, ability, and affection. It gives me warm pleasure to send-as I know it did Lyndon to plan-this bequest which was a part of his last will and testament. Thank you for all you meant to him-and to me. Devotedly, Bird”. Together with a copy of a full page story about Dorothy Nichols and her daily associations with Lynson B. Johnson.....$395.00
