Swedish Nightingale
LIND, Jenny (1820-1887). Swedish soprano called “The Swedish Nightingale”; engaged by P.T. Barnum for a tour of the U.S. (1850-1852). She was the illegitimate daughter of a schoolmistress and became the most idolized woman of her time. She was the first woman to be immortalized in Westminster Abbey. During September 1830, nearly ten years old, she became the youngest pupil accepted into the Royal Theatre School. Brief autograph sentiment signed on a large slip measuring appx. 5”x8”. “in kind remembrance of Jenny Goldschmidt born Lind, London, June 1852”.
