Very Scarce Signed Portrait of a Pioneer in Photography
IVES, Frederic Eugene (1856-1937). American inventor, pioneer in modern photography. He popularized the color print making process (Ives Process) (Ives Polychrome Process). For years he studied to reproduce nature “as it is.” In 1881 he commenced the manufacture of half-tone process printing plates. He is the creator of the Ives Tripak Camera which was a milestone in the development of three-color process photography. A letter from George Eastman in Feb. 1931 to Ives said: “You have been an important factor in making photography a great art, and I am writing you on having lived to see universal use made of one of your inventions which has multiplied the use of photography far beyond what would have been possible without your work.” Photograph, cabinet size, B&W, head & shoulders pose. Written in ink on the lower white margin: “Photo by Goldens, N.Y.” Signed on the lower white margin “F.E. Ives.” A small circular discoloration, size of a penny on the very top left corner on the black background. Very light brushing to parts of his last name. Together with several pages from The Autobiography of an Amateur Photographer which are very informative leafs regarding the work of this great inventor. Signatures of Ives are quite scarce in any form and signed photographs can be considered rare........$250.00
