Fort Dix, New Jersey Is Named For Him
DIX, John A. (1798-1879). Union Major General, commanded 7th Corps. Secretary of the Treasury. Autograph letter signed, 1 page, New York, July 5, 1871. Dix writes to Elihu B. Washburne, the U.S. Minister to France (1816-87). This is a letter of introduction: “...Frank R. Arnold, Esq. of this city is about to leave for Paris. He is from one of the most respectable families, and I shall (be) personally indebted to you for any kindness or courtesy to him...” An excellent example................SOLD
