Fort Dix, New Jersey Is Named For Him

DIX, John A.
(1798-1879). Union Major General, commanded 7th Corps. Secretary of the Treasury.  Autograph letter signed, 1 page, New York, July 5, 1871.  Dix writes to Elihu B. Washburne, the U.S. Minister to France (1816-87).  This is a letter of introduction: “...Frank R. Arnold, Esq. of this city is about to leave for Paris. He is from one of the most respectable families, and I shall (be) personally indebted to you for any kindness or courtesy to him...”  An excellent example................SOLD
