Third Rarest Autograph From the Major Cast of Gone With The Wind
RHETT, Alicia (1916- ) American actress and portrait painter. Performed in only one film. She played the part of “India Wilkes” in Gone With The Wind. She was tested for the part of Melanie but lost it to Olivia DeHavilland. Of the 59 actors and actresses in this movie, her autograph is believed to be the third rarest. (the first and second rarest signatures are those of actors who played slaves and basically never signed). Rhett has not signed autographs for collectors since the 1970’s.
Autograph letter signed, two pages (written on both sides) of her ornate imprinted stationery. South Carolina, January 27, 1988, regarding one of her paintings. In full: “So many thanks for your nice, nice letter. I am thrilled the portrait met with your approval! The portrait arrived safe and sound. Believe it or not the photo shows no rings on either hand! The only jewelry were the gold wire hoop earrings - which I overlooked! Usually put the jewelry on last but will put them in. Now, if you will just send a picture of the ring I shall be delighted to put it in. The right hand is most prominent, the left just shows somewhat. Best regards, Alicia Rhett”. In very good condition. A Rare addition to any collection of Gone With The Wind............... SOLD
