Exceptionally Rare Document Signed, as manager of the New
York Giants, to his catcher, Walker Cooper. A Gag Post-Operative
Award. This colorful and humorous award certifies that Walker
Cooper has been "Legally Separated from a portion of his
Anatomy by a Duly Qualified Surgeon; and after having Successfully
Survived said pruning is hereby Awarded this Passport to Future
Health.....Be it also Known that the Holder of this Certificate
is now an Honorable Member of the Mystic Order of the Itching
Stitch......" Signed, "Mel Ott"
and dated 26 May 1948 in his hand.

- Ott was a teammate and manager of Cooper
when Cooper played for the New York Giants. Cooper, an 8-time
all-star catcher, was well-known for his clubhouse pranks, and
"Ottie," as he was nicknamed by his players, was one
of his prime targets. This is simply a fabulous document that
reveals the camaraderie and antics which take place in a baseball
clubhouse. The first such document of its kind that we have seen.
Excellent condition. SOLD
