DOOLITTLE, J.H. (1896-1993). American aviation pioneer who broke many aviation records and won many awards, First pilot to take of, fly and land using only instruments. This is known as “blind flying”. Best noted for his planning and leading the “Doolittle Raid” on mainland Japan. He earned the Medal of Honor presented to him by President Franklin D. Roosevelt at The White House. Early cover with a stamped cachet commemorating Major James H. Doolittle’s progress in aviation by flying 3,000 miles in five months. Dated , July 25, 1932.
