REYNAUD, Paul (1878-1966). Reynaud became Premier of France in March 1940 just a few weeks before the Nazi invasion of France. He was held because of resistance to the Germans. He was interred by the Vichy Government and in 1943 imprisoned by the Nazi’s. Hitler sentenced him to death, but the execution did not take place and Reynaud was eventually liberated by the American forces in May 1945.
