Talkers. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. Later received the Congressional Gold Medal from President George Bush. He is also very well known for breaking the “Curse of the Bambino (Babe Ruth).” In 1919, the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Fans believed it would curse Boston for generations. Because of the curse, Boston went without a World Series Championship for 86 years. Corporal Chester Nez was Invited to give a Navajo prayer with the hopes that the prayer would lift the Curse of The Bambino (Babe Ruth). In the 2004 World Series the Red Sox lost the first three games. Nez threw out the first pitch of game four. With his medicine bag hanging from his left hand, he threw a right handed strike. Nez stayed on the mound, faced left and said his blessing. The Red Sox went on to win the next four games against the Yankees. It was a baseball miracle and the 86 year old curse of the Bambino was broken. Colorful, Red Sox, Boston baseball, illustrated are two Fenway Park U.S. 34 cent postage stamps.
