The First James Bond
NELSON, Barry (1917-2007). American actor, noted for being the first actor to portray Ian Fleming’s secret agent James Bond. He preceded Sean Connery’s “Dr. No” by eight years.
He played Bond in “Casino Royale” on October 21, 1954 along with Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre. Nelson as Bond foils the sinister Le Chiffre by beating him at baccarat. In the opening scene shots are fired at Bond and he responds that they weren’t asking for his autograph. Nelson appeared on Broadway and in many films including “Airport” and “The Shinning”. Reprint of an advertisement for “Casino Royale” 8.5”x11’ of Barry Nelson holding a gun. Signed “Barry Nelson - 007”. Barry Nelson lived part of the time in New York City. It took us a few years to convince him to attend our New York City autograph show as a guest signer. We had asked him for a photo of himself as “Bond” to reproduce for those who attended the show and his reply was there aren’t any. He appeared for a few hours and this is one of the items he signed during the show. The photos illustrated are of Nelson and his wife at the show, not included. Multiple copies available.
