being a stanza from one of his noted works, Excelsior, one page,
oblong, octavo, dated March 8, 1871, no place. The stanza reads:
- "The shades of night were falling
As though an Alpine village passed
A youth who bore, 'mid snow and ice,
A banner with the strange device
Henry W. Longfellow.
March 8, 1871"
- The piece shows normal aging and handling,
