Alice’s Famous Father – His Connection to Wonderland
LIDDELL, Henry (1811-1898). Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University. Author “History of Rome” (1855) and co-author with Robert Scott “A Greek-English Lexicon.” Lewis Carroll wrote “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” for Henry Liddell’s daughter Alice Liddell. Henry met and befriended Lewis Carroll through his position as Dean of Christ Church, Oxford where Carroll worked as a mathematics tutor. Alice was the primary child friend and muse for Carroll. On July 4, 1862, during a boat trip with Alice and her sisters, Carroll invented the core story that became the book.
