Famous U Boat Commander- Sunk the First American War Ship
Phenomenal Content Regarding the Sinking of the First American War Ship

TOPP, Eric  (1914-2005). He was the third most successful U-Boat commander. He sunk the first American vessel plus 35 other ships.  Recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords.  Very scarce autograph letter signed on the Hotel Inter*Continental Manila stationery.  Bonn, 22.2.77 to Dear Mr. Wayne Koch. Topp writes in English: “To answer your letter, the “Reuben James” has been protecting a convoy, she was in war-action according to international law. She became a complete loss, not because of the hit of two torpedoes, but as a consequence of exploding all of her depth-charges that had been prepared for attacking German submarines-though the USA at that time  were not at war. Sincerely, Eric Topp”.  With original envelope hand addressed by Topp including his signature and return address.....
