Babe Ruth - The Called Shot

GOMEZ, Lefty  (1908-1989).  American professional baseball player. Left handed pitcher. Played with the New York Yankees (1930-1943).  Poster in color, measures  appx. 18”x24”.  Illustrates Babe Ruth at the mound holding his bat and pointing to the bleachers.  This was during the third game of the 1932 World Series  at Wrigley Field against Charlie Root  of the Chicago Cubs.   Ruth came up to bat with  one out in the fifth inning.  The score was 4 to 4.  With two strikes against Ruth,  it is said Ruth pointed to the center area of the bleachers and then hit a home run to the exact area he pointed. For decades this has been a controversy. On this poster, using a very thick blue ink Sharpie Pen, Lefty Gomez has written: “To Barry-Babe actually pointed and called the Home run shot. I was there. Best regards, Lefty Gomez.”  unframed. In fine condition...............$77.50
